YouTube has launched its new Hype feature in India, aimed at boosting the visibility of emerging creators and trending content, designed to help smaller creators with 500 to 5,00,000 subscribers gain visibility and grow faster. Here’s how it works and why it matters.

To support emerging creators, YouTube has rolled out the ‘Hype’ feature, allowing viewers to upvote or “hype” videos to help them reach a wider audience. Unlike traditional likes and shares, It directly impacts video visibility, especially in YouTube’s ‘Explore’ section.

Who Can Use It?

This feature is currently available for creators with 500 to 5,00,000 subscribers. It’s part of YouTube’s mission to support growing talent that already has a loyal fanbase but struggles to reach new viewers organically.

How Does It Work?

  • Hype is available for the first 7 days after a video is published.

  • Viewers can hype a video up to 3 times per week — for free.

  • Each hype adds points to the video.

  • Videos with the most hype points appear on a Top 100 leaderboard, boosting their visibility further in YouTube’s Explore tab.

Bonus Points for Smaller Creators

To make it fairer, YouTube gives bonus points to creators with fewer subscribers. The fewer the subs, the bigger the boost — ensuring fresh talent gets a fair shot at trending.

“When viewers hype, bonus points are automatically applied based on a creator’s subscriber count. The smaller the creator, the bigger the boost,” YouTube mentioned in its blog post.

Why This Is a Game-Changer

With YouTube being flooded with content every minute, breaking into new audiences is one of the biggest challenges for new creators. This new system taps directly into a creator’s community to help spread their content further — democratizing discoverability in a more meaningful way.

Global Beta Test Results

In its initial beta rollout across Turkey, Taiwan, and Brazil, the feature saw over 5 million ‘Hypes’ across 50,000+ unique channels in just 4 weeks. That’s a strong indication of how much viewers want to support their favorite emerging creators.

Final Thoughts

If you’re a viewer, you now have more power than ever to help your favorite small creators grow. And if you’re a creator within the eligible range, make sure you encourage your community to Hype-your videos — it could be the key to your next big breakthrough on YouTube.
